Why We Love It:
Dianthus subacaulis forms tidy evergreen cushions that look beautiful even when not in bloom. In spring, the compact mats become covered in sweetly scented pink flowers that bring classic alpine-garden charm to sunny spaces, often returning for another flush of bloom in fall. Tough, heat tolerant, and highly drought tolerant once established, it thrives in rocky soils and dry landscapes where many traditional perennials struggle. Its compact habit makes it especially useful for edging paths, filling crevices, and softening stonework.

Additional Info:
Very cold hardy and long lived when planted in sharply drained soils. Prefers alkaline, sandy, or gravelly conditions and benefits from good airflow around the foliage. Deadheading spent blooms encourages repeat flowering later in the season. Excellent for trough gardens, alpine plantings, containers, and water-wise landscapes.
